A Ray of Sunshine?

I’ve been a bit pessimistic about our incoming Democrat-controlled congress, but soon-too-be Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Honest Leadership and Open Government Act would go a long ways in building the public’s confidence in Democratic leadership. I hope she sees it through. Lots more pessimism over at QandO.

Tip from James Hudnall. I don’t agree with his ranting and raving about banks and credit card companies. Not one bit.

Update (15 November).  The Murtha thing has me pessimistic again.

I wouldn’t call it ranting and raving. I was just pulling up one example off the top of my head. There are a lot of predatory lending practices out there if you’re credit is less than perfect. And banks manages to make a lot of money with hidden fees and other charges.James Hudnall

Hud:   Thanks for stopping by!  Sometimes I feel like some lone crank shouting into the wind, shouting things that even I’m not interested in.Banks and credit card companies are just like every other group of capitalists that Adam Smith warned us about.  Given the opportunity, they will collude to restrict entry into their industry and influence laws and regulations in ways that increase profits at the expense of their customers.  In their defense, they have to contend with deadbeats, dingbats, and outright scammers (some of them college-educated from my university) who complain over their $300 cellphone that they couldn’t get another $200 tatoo because their credit card is maxxed out.  No one is born with bad credit, and a long and careful diet of budgeting and baloney sandwiches can cure it (I know from experience). This week I’m teaching my freshmen stats class about growth models, with credit card debt as the "up close and personal" example.  Maybe I’ll save one or two from indentured servitude to MasterCard, but I’m not holding my breath.  Everyone thinks they’ll live forever, win at blackjack and make all their bills on time.   Poor suckers.[Focus, Spunky, you’re wandering!–maybe even ranting.]Anyway, if you want predatory, skip the banks and take a close look at your latest phone bill.  The state PUCs have turned the telcos into tax collectors–with all we pay, there ought to be wi-fi in every square inch of the friggin’ country.  B@$t@rd$.
