These folks could break an anvil

Confronted with an economic (that is, money-saving) way to reduce carbon emissions (fluorescent light bulbs), the UK Greenpeace Brain Trust immediately concludes there oughta be a law to compel Brits to save money.

An energy tax on incandescent light bulbs, maybe.  But a prohibition?  Here come the Light Bulb Commissars!

You really must read the entire text of the second link.  Two items hit me in the eye:

Yup, that’ll make you feel better.

Trouble is, the quality of the light produced by fluorescent light bulbs is inferior to that produced by incandescent ones. Although there seems to have been some progress in this department, give me incandescent light any day!

I’ve been gradually converting to fluorescents throughout the house.  Here in south Texas, we get plenty of natural light, I’m not bothered by the difference in nighttime light quality, and I certainly don’t need the extra heat from an incandescent bulb!  My only gripe with fluorescent lights is sizes and shapes–it’s often tough to find a newfangled bulb to fit into an old-fashioned lamp.  The upside is that I don’t change bulbs nearly as often as I used to.
