Does FLOTUS* know something we don’t know?

Michelle Obama has decided the White House needs a kitchen garden, a "Victory" Garden.  It’s LOCAL, it’s NATURAL ORGANIC, it’s FOR THE CHILDREN.

Sure it is.  I’m getting my garden in this weekend, and I’m stockpiling all the canned and dried foods that will fit in the pantry.  When the First Family feels the need for a kitchen garden, I suspect things will get much worse before they get even a little bit better.

Update (20 March).  1100 square feet, 55 varieties!  Be very worried.  Tip from the CornerABC News jumps on the story, and the usual thumbsuckers have comments.

Update (23 March).  Now I’m really worried:

They also gathered to relish their changing political fortunes, courtesy of the Obama administration.“This
has never been just about business,” said Gary Hirshberg, chief
executive of Stonyfield Farm, the maker of organic yogurt. “We are here
to change the world. We dreamt for decades of having this moment.”

The people who promoted subprime mortgages through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac want to start diddling with the food supply.  Oh, goody.  And then there’s this

“We’d all love to live on a farm in Vermont, right?” she [Nancy M. Childs, a professor of food marketing at St. Joseph’s University] adds.

Stony soil, subzero winters, ruinous taxation, recreational drunkeness, and redneck neighbors–is Professor Childs out of her farookin’ mind?  Besides, I can get all that–less the winters and taxation, plus cheaper produce–right here in South Texas.

Tip from the Instapundit, who hasn’t quite digested this yet.
