My biostatistics students just completed their first case study: a survey of handwashing behavior at UTSA, finding that students wash their hands only about 76% of the time before leaving the restroom. And look what gets published by the American Society for Microbiology: their 2007 Survey of Handwashing Behavior. They show a big difference between men and women, which doesn’t show up in the UTSA population. That’s not surprising, since my students are surveying a limited demographic group, at only two related sites. Still our overall rates are comparable. It’s nice to know we’re getting consistent results, even with limited data.
Tip from ABC News, who still doesn’t put active links in their articles–lazy sods.
