A Jacksonian Demonstration

It’s good to have a basic understanding of the four fundamental schools of American politics defined by Walter Russell Mead: Hamiltonians, Wilsonians, Jeffersonians, and Jacksonians. Outdoor Life columnist Jim Zumbo apparently didn’t know that most gun owners are Jacksonians when he wrote an ill-advised column about "tactical" hunting rifles, calling them "assault weapons." Zumbo certainly hadn’t read what Robert Toombs, one of Jefferson Davis’ Cabinet, said about the Jacksonians: "An army of hornets now at rest will swarm out in the millions and sting you to death if you fire the first shot." Once the hornets get riled up, they won’t stop stinging you, or anyone else around, no matter what you do or say. Think I’m kidding? Go over to Zumbo’s column, and count–don’t bother reading–just count the comments.
