Hermite Polynomials

Last night in Advanced Inference, Dr. Kannan digressed slightly from the syllabus to discuss the Edgeworth Expansion for approximating density functions. One of the key ingredients in the expansion is the set of Hermite polynomials; I wondered "Who was Hermite?" Now I know:  in my department, we’d call him Mr Orthogonality.
