Win some, lose some

Some of my fellow Republicans are down in dumps about the election, and some of my Democrat friends and colleagues are hooting and hollering like it’s Christmas.  All I can say is–chill out.  Neither political party has shown itself to be particularly adroit in dealing with the nation’s toughest problems, and I’ve long thought it was foolish to expect Big Daddy in D.C. to solve our problems via long-distance, using a laundered version of our own money, with newly-minted experts who just blew into town yesterday.  Glenn Reynolds has a nice comment on this idea. My tiny contribution is this:  pick one thing you think could be changed for the better, and push for that change–don’t wait for someone else to do it.  Be persistent, be constructive, and be patient.  It may take a while, but if it’s a change for the better, it will be welcomed and will endure.  But never give up–if you quit, they win.
