Aha, WHITE GUILT is the hangup!

I’ve often felt that affirmative action was an idea whose time had
come…and gone. It was a great quick fix, especially in jobs where
common sense and hard work were the true talents needed. What I’ve long
wondered was, what do we do for an encore? Affirmative action is a
band-aid, but what’s our plan for preventing the injury in the first
place?

I understand these are terribly un-PC thoughts, but I wasn’t quite sure why. Shelby Steele explains it all in a WSJ editorial today to flog his new book, White Guilt: How Blacks and Whites Together Destroyed the Promise of the Civil Rights Era.

Update (5 May).  Cassandra at Villianous Company takes Steele’s thesis to its illogical conclusion.
