Don’t let Dad see my report card!

Wired News has a neat article about consternation in the academy over the RateMyProfessors
web site.  The article certainly supports my belief that
universities are deeply conservative institutions, at least in the
sense that they resist change.

"Anyone can contribute
ratings, whether they know how to rate someone effectively or not and
whether they are enrolled in the class or not," said Chet Robie, associate professor of management and organizational behavior at Wilfrid Laurier University.
….
"What other job are your performance records up to public scrutiny?" he
asked. "Just because many professors are being paid by taxpayers, does
that mean they give up all rights to privacy?"

Gosh, Chet, I dunno…  How about these guys?  Or these guys?  Or this industry? Or maybe this guy?

I only have one complaint about RateMyProfessors — where’s my friggin’ chili pepper?
